Using an off the shelf theme can be an excellent way around a tight budget, but as soon as you want to change anything 'not supported' those savings can soon disappear.  We believe an off the shelf theme should be reliable, well tested and maintained and flexible - a simple on/off click and the upload of your logo should do the job.  Colour options can be an added bonus.  Any changes would need to be maintained, so local changes and customisation are to be avoided, otherwise you may as well dig a bit deeper and get an original and unique theme of your own.

We are currently modelling the Acquia Marina theme from TopNotchThemes, but the plan is to try some out as the mood takes us, too busy on other people's themes to sort our own one out.

Light, fresh and pleasantly chunky, our only quibbles are we'd need to do some hacking to get our logo and site name how we want, and even a tiny hack to get it how it is - fortunately a local.css file means this wouldn't be such a big job to do or maintain.  Apparently we can even change the icons fairly simply if we want.  It comes with good documentation, including video and is actively maintained.

Hmmm ... may be next week something in blue?
